2023 was a year of uncertainty in the world of real estate. The Fed has raised interest rates 11 times in the past two years with the goal of trying to slow the economy and curb inflation. The latest hike in July pushed interest rates to their highest level in 22 years. Some buyers have retreated and sellers that had intended to list their homes have changed course feeling good about the low rates on their current loans. This has resulted in record low inventory and increasing home values. We are still experiencing multiple offers on the most desirable homes, usually updated, on flat lots with usable yards and walkability to town. Other homes in the hills or needing work have seen price reductions in order to sell.
Looking ahead, economists are optimistic about the potential for rate cuts in 2024. We are sure to experience a robust spring market for both buyers and sellers.
One fact remains, Marin real estate is an excellent investment as Marin will always be desirable for the reasons we love living here - gorgeous nature and outdoor lifestyle, beautiful beaches, amazing schools and close proximity to SF.
